Mr. Kalonzo Musyoka, while speaking in Kiambu County dismissed the grading system used KNEC in KJSEA terming it awkward and that which goes against the recognized trends of the world. He further added that this will not give our students recognition in the outside world. He joins several parents who has called upon the government to explain and accompany the slip with thorough explanation on what each of the grades is equivalent to.
The new grading system has 9 learning areas and the maximum point is 8 which totals to 72 points since only 8 are used in the calculation of points
The grading used are EE1: 90%-100% ( 8 Points) , EE2: 75%-89% ( 7 points) , ME1: 58%-74% (6 points) ,ME2: 41%-57% (5 Points), AE1: 31%-40% (4 Points) ,AE2: 21%-30% (3 Points), BE1: 11%-20% (2 Points), BE2: 0%-10% (1 point). These system is different from what is used in most world countries which is A-F.
Apart from the grading system which has thrown many parents into confusion, he added that CBE needs to be looked into with a lot of honesty.
The placement of Junior school learners into senior school is set to begin next week and will be completed by 20th December 2025 and Grade 10 learners will be expected to report to their school starting 12th January 2025 .According to Mr. Ogamba, the CS for Education, the selection will be based on performance as well as selected pathway.
