2 (a)State seven instructions that God gave to Moses concerning the night of the Passover in Egypt (Exodus 12: 1-11)

3. a) In the Old Testament, there were various categories of prophets. Giving relevant examples, outline three categories of the prophets in Israel.
i. Major Prophets – They have specific books which bear their names. Their books are long and contain more information e.g. Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel
ii. Minor Prophets – Their books are short and have less information e.g. Amos, Hosea, Obadiah, Joel, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi iii. Canonical Prophets – These are prophets whose words/ messages were recorded in various books that have their names e.g. the major prophets and minor prophets
iv. Early Prophets – These are prophets who travelled, delivered oracles and lived together in communities/ schools/ guilds under a chief prophet e.g. Elijah, Elisha, Samuel, Moses
v. Cultic Prophets – They were stationed and served in shrines/ places of worship and were regarded as experts in prayers/ would petition before God/ communicate the acceptance/ rejection of an offering e.g. Samuel
vi. Non-Canonical prophets – Their work is recorded alongside other historical events by other writers e.g. Elijah, Elisha, Nathan
b) Explain the evils committed by the neighbours of the Israelites and the punishment that would befall them according to the teaching of prophet Amos.
i. Syria/ Damascus treated the people of Gilead with cruelty during war against Israel. God would destroy them by sending divine fire on their land/ take them to exile in Kir.
ii. Tyre/ Phoenicia – The king of Tyre sold the Israelites to Edom as slaves therefore breaking the covenant of brotherhood. God would send fire to destroy Tyre.
iii. Gaza/ Philistia had sold their fellow citizens to slavery in Edom. God would send divine fire to burn down her palaces
iv. Edom had harshly treated the citizens of Jerusalem who were their relatives/ had taken them into slavery. God would destroy the entire nation by fire.
v. Ammon broke the rules of war by being cruel to the pregnant women of Gilead during war against Israel. The king and his subjects would be sent into exile/ destroyed by divine fire.
vi. Moab was accused of burning the bones of the King of Edom hence would be destroyed by divine fire/ the king and the princes would be killed.
c) State what Christians can learn from the teaching of Prophet Amos on judgment and punishment
i. Christians should avoid evil so as to escape God’s judgment
ii. They should repent their sins/ seek forgiveness
iii. Christians should put into practice God’s teaching/ obey his commands/ instructions
vi. They should love the poor/ needy/ help the less fortunate/ share their wealth with others
vii. They should be prayerful
viii. Christians learn that God is universal/ he judges all the people/ nations
ix. Christians should be ready to face temptations/ opposition/ rejection for the sake of God’s word

4. (a) Outline the characteristics of the Canaanite religion.
i. The Canaanite religion was polytheistic/ had many gods and goddesses/ family of gods
ii. The religion had symbols/ images to represent each god/ goddess/ idol worship was practiced
iii. It was based on nature/ cyclic/ seasons of the year
iv. The aim of the religion was to ensure fertility of the land/ flocks/ people
