1. (a) The annunciation of the birth of Jesus to Mary by Angel Gabriel

(Luke 1 : 26 – 38)

(i) Angel Gabriel was sent by God to a girl called Mary. Vs 26

(ii) Mary was a virgin / betrothed to Joseph of the house of David. Vs 27

(iii) The angel greeted her/ told her that the Lord was with her / she was highly favoured. Vs 28

(iv) Mary was deeply troubled / wondered what those words meant. Vs 29

(v) The angel told her not to be afraid. Vs 30

(vi) He told her that she would bring forth a son / He would be called Jesus.

(vii) He also said that Jesus would be great/ called the son of the most high / be given the throne of his father David / have an everlasting kingdom / reign over the house of Jacob. Vs 32–33

(ix) The angel told her that the Holy Spirit would come upon her, so the child to be born would be holy. Vs 35

(c)  Reasons why it is important to introduce children to church at an  early age

 (i)  Children should be introduced to church at an early age to  enable them adopt / learn the doctrines / teaching of the  church.

 (ii)  In order for them to familiarize themselves with the  religious rituals / practices of their church.

 (iii)  Introducing children to church at an early age is emulating  the example of Jesus.

 (iv)  It gives the children a sense of belonging to the church  community.

 (v)  It is a way of showing obedience to the teaching of Jesus /  ~~who Jesus~~ said "let the children come to me".

 (vi)  In order for the children to develop a relationship with God.

 (vii)  It helps to prepare them for future leadership roles in the  church.

2. (a)  The teaching of Jesus on the discipleship from the sermon on the  on the plain ( Luke 6:17 – 49)

(b)  The incident in which Jesus healed Gerasene Demoniac ( Luke 8 :  26 – 39)  

(i)  Jesus and his disciples arrived in the land of Gerasene. Vs 26  

(ii)  They met a man who was a demon possessed / had not worn

(iii) The man cried out / fell down / and told Jesus not to torment him. Vs 28

(iv) This is become∧because Jesus had commanded the unclean spirit out of the man. Vs 29

(v) Jesus asked the man his name. Vs 30

(vi) The man responded that his name was legion / many demons. Vs 30  Vs 31 

(vii) The demons begged Jesus not to send them to the abyss /butsen/ to into the swine that was nearby. Vs 32

(ix) The swine rushed and drowned in a nearby lake. Vs 33

(x) The herdsmen fled and went to tell people in the city of what had happened. Vs 34

(xi) People came and found the man sitting at the feet of Jesus healed/ dressed and in his right mind. Vs 35

(xii) The people got afraid of Jesus and asked him to leave their territory. Vs 37

(xiii) The healed man asked if he could accompany Jesus. Vs 38

3. (a) The events that took place on the day Jesus was crucified between the sixth hour and his burial (Luke 23 : 44 – 55)

(b) Reasons why Jesus appeared to his disciples after his resurrection.

(i) Jesus appeared to his disciples after resurrection so as to reassure them that he was the Messiah.

(ii) He wanted to strengthen their faith in him.

(iii) So as to comfort them.

(iv) He wanted them to get the correct understanding of the suffering Messiah.

(v) In order to empower them to serve.

(vi) He wanted them to witness to others that he had risen.

(iii) It encourages Christians to face suffering / persecutions / death without fear.

(iv) It is an assurance to Christians that they worship a living savior.

(v) It is a proof of Jesus having defeated the Kingdom of the devil / death has been conquered / overcome.

(vi) It is the central pillar of Christian preaching / teaching / mission.

(vii) It confirms that Christians will have a new body after resurrection.

Leadership qualities demonstrated by Peter on the day of Pentecost.

(b) Teachings of Saint Paul on the similarities between the church and husband – wife relationship (Ephesians 5: 21 – 33)

(i) Just as Christ sacrificially loves the church, husbands love their wives. Vs 28,25,33

(ii) Members of the church should live together in unity just like husband and wife. Vs 31(iii) The union between husband and wife is meant to last for a life-time so Christians should remain faithful to Christ. Vs 31

5. (a) Importance of marriage applicable to both traditional African communities and Christianity.

(i) In both, marriage is for procreation.

(iii) In both, marriage raises the status of those who enter.

(iv) Marriage brings people together / promotes unity / enables people to celebrate life.

(v) Marriage is a source of wealth / people acquire / are given gifts / dowry

(b) Factors that have led to the increase of intermarriage among communities in Kenya today.

(i) Employment – people from different communities interact at the place of work leading to intermarriages.

(ii) Language – the use of Kiswahili / English enables people from different communities to intermarry.

(iii) Modern means of transport – people are able to travel easily across the country hence marry from other communities.

(iv) Education – has made people from different communities to interact in institutions / during co-curricular activities / education seminars / workshop.

(v) Migration – people are free to acquire land / settle in any part of the country.

(vii) Christianity - Christian messages have broken cultural barriers / all are equal before God.

Ways in which Christians prepare for marriage in Kenya today.

(i) Christians pray to God for guidance in getting a partner.

(ii) They ensure there is availability of resources and finances.

(iii) They identify the person to marry / propose to the would be spouse / courtship begins.

(iv) They visit one another / parents / guardians to announce their intention / seek consent.

(v) They attend seminars / guidance and counselling session on marriage

(vii) They inform church leaders about their marriage plans.

(viii) They make arrangement on dowry negotiations / payments

(ix) Christians then set a date / day for the wedding.

(x) Those to get married get friends to stand with them / maids honour / best man / maid / best couple.

(xi) The hold pre wedding parties.

(xii) They visit the office of the Attorney general a requirement

(a) Christians view on plastic surgery.

(i) Christians approve plastic surgery when it is used to correct deformities / treatment.

(ii) Plastic surgery in some cases shows lack of appreciation of oneself.

(iii) The intention of plastic surgery is to create celebrities who become idols / compete for attention.(iv) Plastic surgery is like self-glorification hence it is discouraged.

(v) Christians teach that God is more interested in ones heart than a beautiful body.

(vi) Christians look at plastic surgery as a way that challenges God the creator / takes the place of God.

(b) Ways in which science and technology has improved human life in Kenya.

(i) Science and Technology has improved the agricultural sector thus increased food production / yields / preservation

(ii) Modern means of transport enables people to travel faster.

(iii) Scientific devices have been used to enhance security in homes / offices / country.

(iv) Inventions from science and technology has led to the lengthening of life-span for people / use of artificial limbs / surgeries.

(v) It has led to invention of medicine / control of diseases of / family planning methods / proper nutrition

(vi) New sources of energy have been invented / has raised the living standards of people.

 (iii) Jesus gave his life so Christians can also donate organs. 

(iv) A person can donate an organ and still live so Christians should donate their organs to save life.

(vi) It is seen as an act of human effort to continue as co-creators with God.
